Sticks, Sheds and Strings: Plain Weave

$50.00

June 16  •  Tuesday, 1:00–4:00pm  •  $50 per student  •  All materials included  •  Limited to 6 students

Class 1 of the Rigid Heddle Techniques Series

There is nothing plain about plain weave. It is where all weavers begins – and where the magic of two threads interlacing to become woven fabric becomes real. In this three-hour, hands on session, you’ll weave a 6 inch square from first pass to final finish, learning the fundamental skills that underpin everything you’ll do at the loom.

Your instructor provides a loom, pre-warped, for you to use in class. No setup frustration, no prior experience needed.

You’ll learn:

·       How a rigid heddle loom works

·       How to “read” your weaving

·       Weaving plain weave with a consistent beat and tension

·       Twining stitch and brushed tassels warp ends.

·       Wet finishing your project.

The finished woven square is perfect as a mug rug, small trivet, or the first piece of your sampler collection.

No experience necessary. This class is the gateway to the full Sticks, Sheds, & Strings series, where each session builds new techniques on the foundation you start here.

Registration in advance is required. Looms and all materials are provided. Just bring your curiosity and comfortable clothes.
